The installation was meant to be a colorful reminder of our ecosystem. I chose to combine 2 disciplines: hand dyed textiles and printmaking.
I was confronted with: which site along the path along the Grand River, scale (since I had always carved linoleum block prints from 2 by 2 inches to around 8 by 10 inches) and material to print on.
The site I chose was the boardwalk railing coming out from under either side of the Oakland Street bridge. I would carve much larger linoleum blocks and hand print on 100% hand dyed cotton duck fabric.
When installed on the railings of the boardwalk, I imagined the wind fluttering the flag like various sized, hand-dyed and printed panels. Which it did….. for only 5 days until it was destroyed by vandalism.
